This program of popular works by three of classical music’s best-known composers begins with an early composition by Beethoven—the Piano and Winds Quintet, whose instrumentation Beethoven took from Mozart’s 1784 quintet (which can be heard on the Festival’s July 27 & 28 concerts)—and concludes with Mendelssohn’s second and final piano trio: the passionate and fiery Piano Trio in C Minor, which Mendelssohn wrote just a couple of weeks after the premiere of his famous Violin Concerto.
