Liszt & Kodály

Kevin John Edusei returns to conduct a program celebrating the flamboyance and wit of two great Hungarian composers, Liszt and Kodály, beginning with Liszt’s symphonic poem, Les Préludes. Liszt wrote this dramatic piece based on poems depicting the heavens, stormy winds and pastoral scenes. Guest soloist Haochen Zhang performs Liszt’s high-spirited First Piano Concerto, which was criticized by his contemporaries for pushing the bounds of taste, but was later embraced by composers like Béla Bartók.
