The sun gently rises, casting its warm and invigorating rays, conjuring a wealth of hopes and possibilities. It was for this reason that Louis XIV proclaimed himself the “Sun King,” as his sheer existence (in his mind!) radiated all the good “French” things during his reign. Music was a defining element of his court, with nothing more quintessentially French than the viola da gamba.
