Cello Concerto, Anne Richardson Soloist

Edvard Elgar - Enigma Variations , Op. 36

Music Director Jessica Bejarano and the San Francisco Philharmonic close their season with a program of mystery and lyricism. Soloist Anne Richardson, associate principal cello with the San Francisco Symphony, brings her expressive mastery to a cello concerto (TBA)--you won't want to miss her performance. Then, the evening culminates with British composer Edward Elgar’s beloved Enigma Variations. Each variation reveals a vivid musical portrait—by turns tender, playful, noble, and transcendent—woven together by the composer’s appropriately "enigmatic" theme. From whispers to the grandeur of “Nimrod,” this cinematic work, featured in many iconic films, speaks to the human spirit.
