Art Nouveau, an effort to create a truly original style, free from classical influence, flourished in Europe between 1890 and 1910 and produced some of the most exquisite jewelry in history. Jewelers such as René Lalique and Georges Fouquet employed sinuous, organic lines, melding human, vegetal and animal forms. In this lecture, we’ll explore how movement, fantasy and virtuosity took precedence over carat weight.

About the Instructor:
Rebecca Albiani has been an arts lecturer at the Frye Art Museum since 1997. A former Graduate Lecturing Fellow at the National Gallery in Washington D.C., and a Fulbright Scholar in Venice, she holds an MA from Stanford University and a BA from the University of California, Berkeley.
